"As an employer, why would I be interested in adult literacies in my workplace?"
Research has found that it is likely that poor literacy skills in the workforce cost the UK economy £10 billion annually. The work-based literacy programme aims to challenge this head on. In partnership with employers it may be possible to provide quality, on-site literacy and numeracy tuition.
Evidence suggests employees who improve their reading, writing and number skills usually take less time off work, improve in the quality of work and show a greater willingness to learn. They are also likely to demonstrate a positive attitude to changes in the workplace and have increased loyalty to their employer.
